Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a holistic alternative medicine aiming at diagnosing and helping restore good musculoskeletal function. It relies on the concept that the body is not the simple addition of different parts but works as a whole, Therefore the area of pain may not be the origin of the issue, that the osteopath is trained in decrypting.
Soft tissue, structural, articulatory, visceral and cranial techniques may be used, depending on what is required and what the patient is comfortable with too.
The patient’s history and context (occupation, level of fitness, stress levels, life constraints) are also taken into account to help identify the cause and any potential maintaining factor to the current problem. Advice and basic exercises may also be provided.
Patients of all ages and background (children, sports people, pregnant women, office workers…) can have an osteopathic treatment.
Even if the main reasons for consultation are low back and neck pains, Osteopathy can also often help with :
* Foot, knee, hip, elbow, shoulder, wrist/hand pain and restriction
* cervicogenic headaches
* ‘frozen shoulder’
* IBS
* Stress related tension, jaw issues.
* Postural issues (due to pregnancy or long periods sitting at a desk for example)
* Rrecurrent tendinopathies (like ’tennis elbow’ or ‘golfer’s elbow’) or repetitive strain injuries.
